UST HOSPITAL on Thursday said its coronavirus disease (Covid-19) ward had breached full capacity, forcing it to suspend admissions.

Acting medical director Dr. Marcellus Francis Ramirez said reservations in the Covid unit and ER isolation rooms were not allowed and patients and doctors “must follow the hospital mechanism.”

“Patients for evaluation…can only be seen in Emergency Room (ER) and outpatient workups can be done in the ER isolation rooms but they cannot be accommodated for admission if indicated,” Ramirez said in a memorandum to hospital staff dated July 23.

Ramirez said the hospital would accommodate Covid-19 patients for admission when rooms become vacant.

“Transfer to other hospitals is also very difficult and this must be disclosed to the patients,” he said.

Earlier on Thursday, the Department of Health reported 2,200 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total to 74,390.

The DOH said deaths have reached 1,871 deaths and 24,383 patients have recovered.
