THE HEAD of UST’s journalism program was elected to the board of the Philippine Communications Society (PCS), a professional association of communication practitioners, academics, scholars and researchers.
Felipe Salvosa II was also named public affairs officer by the board following a PCS conference and general assembly held via Zoom on June 4. He will serve until 2023.
“I plan to represent journalists and journalism educators in the society and promote healthy dialogue and collaboration between journalists and the wider community of communication practitioners…It is a heavy responsibility considering the stature of those who came ahead of me, especially Thomasians Crispin Maslog, Alice Villadolid and Joyce Arriola,” Salvosa told the Varsitarian.
Salvosa will be in charge of disseminating and communicating the society’s activities to the public through PCS publications.
“There are so many things to do, for instance helping address the problem of vaccine hesitancy. This is a health communication issue and also something that journalism can help address,” Salvosa said.
The University of the Philippines’s Elena Pernia, a former College of Mass Communication dean, and Professor Emeritus Grace Javier Alfonso were named PCS president and vice president, respectively.
Salvosa is an assistant adviser of the Varsitarian, where he was editor in chief from 2000 to 2001. He is a former editor of BusinessWorld and the Manila Times and now edits for the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism and PressOne.PH.
