Arts and Letters faculty member Samuel Ramos Jr. died on Aug. 1 at the age of 49 due to cardiac arrest.
His death was confirmed by his brother Ramie to the Varsitarian.
Ramos had been a faculty member at the Department of Communication and Media Studies of the Faculty of Arts and Letters since 2014.
He also taught at the University of Makati.
Ramos obtained his bachelor’s degree in communication arts at the Philippine Women’s University in 1996.
He worked for ABS-CBN until 2013, the same year he obtained his master’s degree in communication management from the Asian Institute of Journalism and Communication.
Ramos earned a doctorate in communication in 2020 after completing his studies at the University of the Philippines Open University.
Before teaching part-time in UST, he was an assistant professor at De La Salle University from 2007 to 2014.
UST communication arts alumna Maria Dyanne Reyes, one of Ramos’s students in Academic Year 2020 to 2021, remembered Ramos as a “kind-hearted, encouraging and selfless professor and thesis adviser.”
“He guided me every step of the way. He never left me hanging all throughout my thesis journey, even if it was just through chat or text,” Reyes told the Varsitarian.
“He would also make the time to call me on random days, but that was because he was checking on me and wanted to make sure that I was doing fine,” she added.
Ramos’s remains were cremated on Aug. 4. His wake was held at the Almo Funeral in Bagong Silang, Caloocan City from Aug. 4 to 5.
His ashes will be brought to his hometown of San Pablo, Isabela.
