THE FIRST building in UST Santa Rosa, the UST-Dr. Tony Tan Caktiong Innovation Center, is expected to finish construction by the first half of this year, the Facilities Management Office (FMO) said.

FMO Director Fr. Dexter Austria, O.P., told the Varsitarian that as of Feb. 15, the
building was 97-percent complete.

The building broke ground in December 2020 and its construction timeframe was 12 to 18 months.

Named after Tony Tan Caktiong, a UST alumnus and the Jollibee Foods Corp. founder, the building will be an annex of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-TomasINNO Center, a technology business incubator launched in the Sampaloc campus in 2019.

The cost of constructing the innovation center was estimated to be more than P100 million, according to FMO Asst. Director Albert Surla.

Austria had said that the construction faced challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic and health and safety protocols.
