THE FACULTY of Arts and Letters (AB) is seeking to hold limited face-to-face (LF2F) classes for all seniors taking Thesis Writing 2 this semester as it plans to conduct in-person thesis colloquia in December, a department chair said.

Assoc. Prof. Carlos Manapat, the economics department chair, said all fourth-year AB students were expected to take their thesis colloquium courses in person as agreed upon by department chairs and Artlets Dean Prof. Marilu Madrunio.

“It is an agreement by the department chairs and the dean that everybody will comply with [limited face-to-face for] the colloquium,” Manapat told the Varsitarian.

Manapat’s department is one of several departments in the faculty that are eyeing LF2F classes this October to follow the journalism, communication, and sociology programs.

Manapat said he was still finalizing all the necessary documents for the LF2F classes.

The chairs of the behavioral science and English Language Studies (ELS) departments also confirmed to the Varsitarian that they were targeting to start LF2F classes by the third week of October.

Students of the three programs will attend one class a week, at one and a half hours per session. Sections will be divided into two cohorts, with about 20 students.

For behavioral science, interdisciplinary studies department chair Asst. Prof. John Manuel Kliatchko told the Varsitarian that they were awaiting final approval to conduct classes beginning Oct. 12.

Behavioral science sophomores, juniors, and seniors will participate in LF2F classes.

Prof. Rachelle Lintao said the ELS department would begin in-person classes for juniors and seniors on Oct. 18.

The ELS program applied for LF2F classes in three major courses for the third- and fourth-year levels.

ELS juniors will attend LF2F classes for Discourse Analysis, Research Methodology, and Introduction to Language, Society, and Culture. Meanwhile, senior ELS students will attend in-person classes for Translation Studies, Issues and Perspectives in English Across Professions, and Thesis Colloquium.

Lintao said the department administered preliminary exams for second and third-year students in-person starting last Oct. 7. Nillicent B. Bautista
