A FORMER UST rector and a Faculty of Theology professor will speak at a four-day Holy Week retreat at the Caleruega Retreat Center in Nasugbu, Batangas, from March 28 to 31.

Faculty of Philosophy Dean Fr. Herminio Dagohoy, O.P., who served as UST rector for two terms until 2020, will be among the speakers at the “A Family Holy Week Retreat 2024,” the retreat house announced in a Facebook post.

He will be joined by Fr. Jayson Gonzales, O.P., a faculty member of the Faculty of Theology.

Carrying the theme “Jubilee Year of Prayer: ‘Panginoon, tulungan mo po kaming manalangin,’” the retreat echoes the call made by Pope Francis to dedicate this year “to rediscovering the great value and absolute need for prayer.”

The Pope designated 2024 as a Year of Prayer to prepare for the Church’s 2025 Jubilee Year, which will carry the motto “Pilgrims of Hope.”

The Holy Week retreat will commence on Maundy Thursday (March 28) and will end on Easter Sunday (March 31).

Sessions with the two Dominican priests are spread across the four-day retreat. A viewing of the “Siete Palabras” (seven last words of Jesus) live from the Santo Domingo Church in Quezon City is set for March 29.

A Mass will cap the retreat on Easter Sunday.

Built in 1995, the Caleruega Retreat Center was founded by the Dominican Province of the Philippines and was named after the birthplace of the founder of the Dominican Order, St. Dominic de Guzman.
