FOR THE fourth consecutive year, UST won again the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) general championship its 18th in 21 years.

Overall, UST has won 29 general championships out of the 64 years of the UAAP, making it the most dominant presence in collegiate sports in the country.

UST hardly broke a sweat to retain the general championship. Closely trailing De La Salle University (DLSU) in the general tally, 95-105, at the end of the first semester, UST made a strong comeback in the second semester, making sterling finishes in Athletics (women), Badminton (women,) Lawn Tennis (men), and Taekwondo (women). In the end it posted 214 points. DLSU and the University of the Philippines finished a far second and third with 174 and 173 points, respectively.

Despite its spectacular finish, USTdid not figure in the ABS-CBN official coverage of the UAAP games. In fact, since the men’s basketball square-offs last semester, the network had not been covering the UAAP events, not surprising for a network motivated by commerce and elitism, a factory of stupid sitcoms and soaps, silly variety shows, grotesque public affairs programs, and “The Hunks.”
