Growling Tigers to a 76-72 victory over the University of the Philippines
Fighting Maroons in the 2015 Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at the San Juan
Arena Wednesday.
Ferrer, who returned from a stint with the Sinag Pilipinas
national team in the Southeast Asian Basketball Association championships,
finished with 19 points as the Tigers won their second game in four outings.
Ferrer nailed a crucial three-pointer in the last minute of
the regulation to give UST a slim 71-70 lead. Ferrer then buried three more
free throws for good measure.
“Kevin Ferrer is now the King Tiger this coming UAAP
kaya talagang sinabi ko [sa kanya] he has to step-up and lead the team,”
head coach Bong dela Cruz said.
Down by eight points, the Tigers staged a 6-0 run late in
the third to cut the deficit, 52-54.
Veterans Ed Daquioag and Kent Lao both had solid outings with
16 points apiece.
The Growling Tigers will next face defending National
Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and University (NAASCU) champion
Centro Escolar University Scorpions on May 23, Saturday, at the same venue. Elyssa
