THE UAAP officially cancelled Tuesday the remainder of Season 82, hours after the government announced the extension of the enhanced community quarantine until April 30.

“Conditions for the resumption of UAAP Season 82 can no longer be met,” according to a memorandum signed by UAAP president Emmanuel Fernandez and executive director Rebo Saguisag.

The league will resolve issues such as general championship and player eligibility “at the proper time,” the memo said, citing the need “to focus our time, energy, and resources in battling this crisis.

The initial plan was to resume games before May 1 using “alternative formats.” But it was scrapped when President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday extended the Luzon lockdown until the end of April as the government continued to contain the spread of the new coronavirus.

As of Tuesday, COVID-19 has killed 177 out of 3,764 infected patients in the Philippines.

The final game of Season 82 was played back in March 8, when the UST Golden Tigresses overcame the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws.
