PUMANAW ang kauna-unahang rektor na Filipino ng Unibersidad na si P. Leonardo Legaspi, O.P., arsobispo emerito ng Caceres, noong ika-8 ng Agosto sa UST Hospital sa edad na 78 anyos. Ito ay matapos ang ilang taong pakikipaglaban niya sa kanser sa baga.

Nagsilbing rektor ng Unibersidad si Legaspi mula 1971 hanggang 1977. Naging katuwang na obispo rin siya ng Maynila bago siya itinalagang ikatlong arsobispo ng Caceres sa Naga noong 1984. Nagsilbing aktibong arsobispo si Legaspi sa loob ng 28 taon hanggang sa magretiro siya noong 2012.

Pinamunuan rin ni Legaspi ang Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) mula 1988 hanggang 1991.

KATOTOHANAN ang magsisilbing susi upang makamit ng mga Katolikong Filipino ang biyaya ng makabagong ebanghelisasyon.

Ito ang panawagan ni Arsobispo Socrates Villegas, pangulo ng Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), sa libo-libong delegado ng kauna-unahang New Evangelization Conference (NEC) 2014 sa SMX Convention Hall, SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City noong ika-7 ng Hunyo.

Kinakailangan ng mga Katoliko na hanapin, ipahayag at gawin ang mga bagay nang naaayon sa katotohanan at kalooban ng Diyos, ani Villegas sa isang sulat na binasa ni Joseph Latorre ng Diyosesis ng Parañaque.

Si Legaspi ay pumanaw sa edad na 78 matapos sumuko sa kanser sa baga sa pagamutan ng UST, alas singko ng umaga.

Nagsilbing rektor ng Unibersidad si Legaspi mula 1971 hanggang 1977. Naging katuwang na obispo ng Maynila si Legaspi hanggang sa italagang ikatlong arsobispo ng Caceres sa Naga noong 1984. Doon ay nagsilbi siya ng 28 taon. Nagretiro siya noong 2012.

Pinamunuan ni Legaspi ang Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) mula 1988 hanggang 1991.

29 July 2014, 3:21 p.m. - THE UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas will host its fourth papal visit when Pope Francis goes on a three-day pastoral journey to Manila and Leyte in January 2015.

03 July 2014, 10:587 p.m. - A THOMASIAN prelate has been named by Pope Francis as the Vatican's representative to the United Nations (UN) in New York.

Archbishop Bernardito Auza, 55, the apostolic nuncio to Haiti, was appointed as permanent observer of the Holy See to the UN last July 1, replacing Indian Archbishop Francis Chulikatt who had been serving since 2010.

Auza’s new job as permanent observer to the UN includes following “attentively and with interest the work of UN Organizations,” according to the official website of the Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the UN.
