AN ARCHITECTURE firm founded by a UST alumnus gained the distinction of being the lone Southeast Asian firm to break into the top 100 of a survey conducted by a respected European architecture magazine in 2005.

London-based magazine The Building Design World Architecture, which has the biggest readership among architecture magazines according to the world’s largest ad-hoc research company, TNS Media, ranked the Palafox Associates 94th overall in the World Architecture Top 200.

The publication, with a worldwide circulation and considered as the benchmark survey in the architecture industry, holds an annual assessment for the largest architectural practices based on project aggregate, workforce, fee income, and market sectors. These sectors, or fields of specialization, include urban design, transport, hotels, government buildings, education, residential, master planning, criminal justice, cultural, business parks, health care, sports, industrial, retail, and leisure.

Palafox Associates founder Felino Palafox Jr., a graduate of the old College of Architecture and Fine Arts, said it was an honor to be included in the upper 100 as the list is equally dominated by firms from the United States, Japan, United Kingdom, and other European countries.

Established in 1989, Palafox Associates is the only planning and design firm in the Philippines that has made it to the World Architecture’s Top 500, Top 300 and Top 200 architecture firms in the world for the past six years.

The firm’s projects include United Arab Emirates’ Jumeirah Lake Tower F1, Rockwell Center, SM mall China, and Hollywood Cinemas in the U.S. J.T. Villaflor
