A GRADUATE school student, a College of Science senior, and a Faculty of Arts and Letters senior lead the Varsitarian staff for the school year 2006-07.

Nicolo Bernardo, a former Science and Technology (Sci-Tech) and concurrent Witness editor who is taking up his Master’s degree in Philosophy at the UST Graduate School, has been appointed as the new editor in chief.

Jefferson Evalarosa, an Applied Physics senior and a former Sci-Tech editor, has been designated as managing editor, while Edsel Van D.T. Dura, a Journalism senior and former News writer and photographer, has been appointed associate editor.

Jordan Mari De leon, a Medical Technology intern, is the News and concurrent Special Reports editor, while Paul Jason Jaud, a Communication Arts senior, is the Photography editor.

Architecture senior Erick Christian David has been retained as the Art director while Advertising senior Jonathan Gamalinda is the new assistant Art director.

Journalism seniors Kris Bayos, Llanesca Panti and Mary Joy De lara were appointed acting editors of the Witness, Sports, and Features section, respectively, while Computer Science senior, Laurence John Morales and Advertising senior. Florian Garica were appointed acting Sci-Tech editor and acting Circle editor, respectively.

Completing the 38-man staff of the Varsitarian’s 78th year are:

Ivan Angelo De Lara, Leonard James Postrado, Rafael Mejia, Adrian Elumba, and Marc Laurenze Celis (News); Jamaila Cahilig and Maria Jeanette Cordero (Special Reports); Anthony Andrew Divinagracia, Maria Jesamine Palarca, and Raymond Jude Dumaual (Sports); Raychel Ria Agramon and Rieze Rose Calbay (Features); Camille Fallorina and Nathaniel Melican (Witness); Kingbherly Li and Celina Ann Tobias (Sci-Tech); Andrew Isiah Bonifacio and Regina Estrelita Daza (Circle); Myla Jasmine Bantog (Literary); Ruben Jeffrey Asuncion and Lee Villanueva (Filipino); Mark Laurenze Celis, Adrian Elumba, and Kerwin Patrick Mercadal (Photography); and Michelle Angelique Canoy and Royce Mar Nicdao(Art).

This year’s Selection Committee was composed of Center for Creative Writing and Studies director and former Varsitarian literary editor Ophelia Dimalanta; former Varsitarian editors in chief Christian Esguerra of the Philippine Daily Inquirer and Felipe Salvosa of the Business World; former Varsitarian assistant Filipino editor and now Filipino Prof. Reynaldo Candido; and former Varsitarian managing editor and now English Prof. Adrian Montemayor.

Prof. Joselito Zulueta of the Journalism department, an editor and editorialist of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, is still the publications adviser.
