– THE UST Theological Society will be holding a one-day “gathering of prayer,
music, fellowship, and reflection” in preparation for the visit of Pope Francis
to the country on Jan. 15 to 19, 2015.

The event, titled “A Nation of Mercy and
Compassion,” will be held on Nov. 6, 2:30 pm at the Santisimo Rosario Parish.
It aims to renew the spirituality of the Filipinos, particularly the Thomasian
community.

Theological Society President Christian
Dale Dakila said the gathering was supposed to be a closed-door series of
lectures for theologians in the Pontifical University, but organizers saw the
need to invite the faithful as well.

“We have to remember that Pope Francis’
visit is not just a visit of a diplomat or a VIP. We know that his visit will
cause a lot of inspiration and renewal … So, we need preparations, especially
spiritual preparation,” Dakila told the Varsitarian.

The society also plans to launch a project
on that aims to provide catechism to the Thomasian community through the
eLearning Resource Portal (eLeap), in collaboration with the Office of Student
Affairs. “We want to have a primer through the eLeap program so that even
during the semestral break, they can read it,” Dakila said.

The
Nov. 6 event will feature speakers such as Fr. Filemon Dela Cruz, O.P., vice
rector for Religious Affairs, and Michael Lobrin, an inspirational
speaker. Angeli Mae S. Cantillana
