June 5, 2015, 9:24 p.m. – UST’S Faculty of Arts and
Letters (Artlets) is set to offer a bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Creative
Writing starting 2018.

“There is obviously an interest [in creative writing]
on the part of the students,” UST Center for Creative Writing and Literary
Studies (CCWLS) Director Cristina Pantoja-Hidalgo said in an interview.
“Since a program is not yet offered by [UST], interested students may only
improve their skills through workshops.”

Hidalgo proposed the establishment of the Creative Writing
program to Artlets Dean Michael Anthony Vasco and Vice Rector for Academic
Affairs Clarita Carillo in 2012. At present, UST only offers a master’s degree
in Creative Writing.

But the Artlets administration decided to postpone its
launch until 2018 due to the the K to 12 Program.

UST will be the first institution to offer a Creative
Writing undergraduate program among schools in the university belt, Hidalgo noted.
