October 10, 2015, 10:46p.m. – THE COUNTRY’S fashion industy mourns the passing of Thomasian designer Guillermo “Gerry” Katigbak due to cardiac arrest on Saturday morning at the age of 64.

Born and raised in Batangas, the Fine Arts alumnus of the old UST College of Architecture and Fine Arts started his career in fashion as one of the in-house designers of retail outlet Rustan’s in the 1970’s.

The designer was known for his avant-garde style, using a variety of unconventional silhouettes and fabrics.

“French Medieval Rock,” one of Katigbak’s recent collections, highlighted his unique men’s wear aesthetic that dressed models as medieval men. It was showcased during the Holiday 2014 season of Philippine Fashion Week.

Katigbak was also a noted photographer, stylist, choreographer, and a teacher who taught at De La Salle College of St. Benilde and SoFa Design Institute.

The designer’s remains lie in state at Don Bosco Memorial Chapel in Makati. Ethan James M. Siat
