October 22, 2015, 12:40a.m. – A FILM about Typhoon “Yolanda” survivors by Thomasian director Brillante Mendoza won an award at the 15th Beirut International Film Festival in Lebanon.

“Taklub” was voted best feature film by the audience during the film festival held Oct. 7-15.

The film tells stories of Bebeth (played by multi-awarded actress Nora Aunor), a mother looking for her dead children; Larry, who lost his wife; and Erwin, who mourns his parents’ death with his siblings.

The film has been screened in several European countries including Poland, Finland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Russia. It also won acclaim in international film festivals in South Korea and the United Kingdom.

Taklub opened the 11th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival and Competition at the Cultural Center of the Philippines last August.

Mendoza is known for his award-winning films “Serbis,” “Kinatay,” “Lola,” “Captive” and “Thy Womb.”
