January 10, 2016, 2:43p.m. – THE PRESIDENT of the Nursing Central Board of Students has resigned to devote his last semester in UST to “scholarly pursuits.”
Tristan Santos’ resignation was approved last Jan. 9 by the Office of the Dean after consultation with the Nursing Commission on Elections (Comelec).
“Now that I am free from this extracurricular activity in campus politics, I can be more focused on my studies which should really be prioritized,” Santos said in his resignation letter.
The vice president, Juan Paulo Hidalgo, will assume the presidency. A special election will be held by the Legislative Board within 15 days beginning Jan. 5 to fill the vacated vice presidential post.
“The Nursing Comelec En Banc hopes for a speedy and orderly transition of power and [asks] for the cooperation of the student body during this period,” said the central board in a statement on its Facebook page.
Santos was the only independent candidate elected in last year’s student board polls. Seven out of eight posts were won by the Binuklod ng Isip, Sipag at Galing Party. Kathryn Jedi V. Baylon
