Nov. 11 2016, 9:48  p.m. – THE FACULTY of Civil Law has suspended all members of two fraternities following a “fisticuffs” incident inside the University last Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Civil Law Dean Nilo Divina said the incident involved two students who engaged in a fistfight on campus.

“[B]ased on the [gathered] reports [from] the security department of the University, two students [supposedly] engaged in fisticuffs, [then it started] a commotion between the members of the fraternities,” Divina said in a phone interview with the Varsitarian.

In a memorandum signed by Divina on Nov. 10, members of the Gamma Delta Epsilon Fraternity and Aegis Juris Fraternity were not “to enter the campus or the Faculty of Civil Law or attend classes until further orders.”

“I issued the memo right after the following morning [which is based] onan incident report from the security department and [statements] of the council president, James Ballecer,” Divina said.

Divina said the memorandum was a precautionary measure to ensure the security of all students of the faculty.

All members and officers of the fraternities were placed on preventive suspension while the incident is under investigation.

“There are witnesses anyway, so [they] should be called to shed light on the matter,” he said.

Divina added that the suspension was not a penalty but a preventive suspension “to prevent the incident from escalating.”
