THOMASIANS raised funds for a campus maintenance staff who suffered hand injuries following a dog attack.
UST psychology alumna Bea Trinidad Aquino initiated the fundraiser through a Facebook post, calling for donations to help cover the hospital expenses of Alvin Negrido Marbida, a janitorial staff of the College of Science.
Marbida was chaining his dog when it suddenly jumped on him and bit his hands on Feb. 24. Both hands suffered major wounds and nerve damage.
According to Aquino, more than P74,000 was raised in less than 24 hours after posting.
“I saw his post asking for help kasi na-ospital po sya, […] nagpaalam po ako if pwede po ma-post GCash number niya online para po malaman ng Thomasian community po na yung kaibigan po namin na janitor nangangailangan po ng tulong,” Aquino told the Varsitarian.
“When I posted it po, immediate po yung response ng UST students and Science Community. Yung admin, faculty, students and alumni po namin talagang nag raise ng awareness na Kuya Alvin was in need of help po,” Aquino added.
Marbida has been working in the University for five years.
“Sobra-sobra po yung binigay nilang tulong sa akin, expect ko po na `yung pamilya ko lang ang tutulong sa akin. Nung time po kasi na `yon walang wala akong pera kaya nag-post ako sa Facebook ko,” Marbida told the Varsitarian.
“Wala na pong tumulong sakin kasi po natatakot na rin po sila baka kagatin sila,” he added.
Marbida was discharged from San Lazaro Hospital on Feb. 25 but was still under observation and temporarily unable to report for work.
