UST kept its status as a top-notch accountancy school in the October cycle of the certified public accountant (CPA) licensure examinations, scoring a 76.9-percent passing rate, a six-year high.

UST was the top producer of CPAs with 213 successful examinees. It also achieved the highest number of passers among first-time examinees (161) and repeaters (52).

Its performance in the latest cycle was an improvement from its 59.47-percent passing rate (113 of 190 examinees) in May 2023, and its best since the October 2017 cycle when it recorded a 91.99-percent passing rate (333 out of 362 examinees)

Mark Grandia led the batch of new Thomasian accountants with an 89.83-percent score, the fourth best nationwide.

Joseph Angelo Ogrimen joined Grandia in the top 10 after ranking eighth nationwide with a score of 88.83 percent. 

Charlize Linantud, a former Varsitarian special reports writer, was also among the passers.

Allaine Collamar of University of the Philippines-Visayas and Hebban Tawantawan of University of San Jose-Recoletos led the fresh crop of CPAs after scoring 91.17 percent.

Other schools with examinees that reached the hundred mark had passing rates significantly lower than UST’s, including Far Eastern University (61 of 235; 25.96 percent) and Polytechnic University of the Philippines-Main Sta. Mesa (132 of 255; 51.76 percent).

The national passing rate slightly rose to 31.37 percent (2,740 passers out of 8,734 examinees) from the May 2023 cycle’s 30.36 percent (2,239 of 8,734).
