The Varsitarian is inviting official college team members to register for the 44th Pautakan, which will be held on Monday, April 15, 2024, at the Medicine Auditorium of the San Martin de Porres Building.

The quiz contest brings together the brightest minds from the Thomasian community for a full-day intellectual showdown, featuring a range of subjects such as UST history, general knowledge, current events, humanities, science and technology, and mathematics.

In its 44th iteration, Pautakan includes both team and individual categories open for participation by Thomasians enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs.

In the team category, a lineup representing a faculty or college must have five regular members and two alternates. They are allowed to have two coaches, who can be faculty members, former Pautakan team participants, or students from the academic unit being represented.

Representatives in the individual category must come from the pool of contestants representing the academic unit in the team format.

Each faculty or college is limited to just one team for the contest. The deans of the respective academic units must approve the official roster of Pautakan contestants.

Registration for the 44th Pautakan will be open until Saturday, Feb. 10.

The last in-person edition of Pautakan took place in 2019, during which the Faculty of Engineering emerged victorious and secured its 12th championship in the quiz bee.

Amid the pandemic, a virtual quiz bee was staged in 2021 in lieu of the traditional format, which was limited to individual contestants.

For queries about this year’s Pautakan, interested contestants may contact John Peter L. Cajayon at 0928-083-4758 or johnpeter.cajayon.ab@ust.edu.ph, or Janica Kate J. Buan, at 0995-449-3563 or janicakate.buan.ab@ust.edu.ph.
