Planned 5-8 percent tuition hike opposed

Feb. 20, 2015, 11:35 p.m. - THE CENTRAL Student Council (CSC) and the Central Board of students rejected the proposed five- to eight-percent tuition increase during a consultation with University administrators Friday.

Faculty of Civil Law Student Council President and Central Board speaker Victor Villanueva vowed to prevent the implementation of the proposed tuition increase, which he said was  unjustifiable.

UST posts higher passing rate in physician boards

Feb. 20, 2015, 10:38 p.m. - THE UNIVERSITY recorded a 95-percent passing rate in the February 2015 off-season physician licensure examinations, with two Thomasians entering the top 10.

Nineteen Thomasians passed out of 20 examinees. The passing rate was higher than last year’s 83.33-percent or 15 passers out of 18 examinees.

Alrick Anthony Gonzalez led the new batch of Thomasian physicians after placing seventh with a score of 86 percent, while Angela Pauline Calimag-Loyola grabbed the eighth spot with a score of 85.75 percent.

Two political parties denied accreditation

Dec. 12, 2014, 11:33 p.m. - THE UST Central Commission on Elections (Comelec) has denied the petitions for accreditation of two university-wide political parties due to failure to meet membership requirements.

Alyansa ng Kristiyanong Lakas (AKLAS) and Lakas Tomasino Coalition (LTC) failed to accomplish the necessary documents for accreditation as stated by the UST Students’ Election Code (USEC) of 2011, according to a resolution released by the Comelec last Monday on its official Facebook page.

Lakas ng Diwang Tomasino (LD) was the sole university-wide political party to be re-accredited.

Members of 2 law frats suspended

Oct. 14, 2014, 6:25 p.m. - THE FACULTY of Civil Law has suspended all members of two fraternities involved in two separate "standoff" incidents yesterday and last Sunday.

In a memorandum signed by Civil Law Dean Nilo Divina, members of the Gamma Delta Epsilon Fraternity and Aegis Juris Fraternity were temporarily suspended from “all bar operations and other student activities within [the] UST campus or other site where [the] UST Faculty of Civil Law has an official activity.”

More than 6,000 law grads take 2014 bar exams at UST

Oct. 5, 2014, 10:06 p.m. - A TOTAL of 6,344 aspiring lawyers trooped to UST earlier today for the 2014 Bar Examinations.

The bar exams, to be conducted during all Sundays of October, cover Political Law, Labor Law, Civil Law, Taxation, Mercantile Law, Criminal Law, Remedial Law, and Legal and Judicial Ethics topics. Essay questions make up 80 percent of the exams while the rest are multiple-choice questions.

The number of examinees went up from last year's 5,593.

UST improves in Chemistry boards

Oct. 10, 2014, 8:29 p.m. - THE UNIVERSITY improved its passing rate in the 2014 licensure examination for chemists, with two Thomasians entering the top 10.

UST posted a 78.26-percent passing rate, or 36 passers out of 46 examinees, which was higher than last year’s 63.83 percent or 30 passers out of 40 examinees, results from the Professional Regulation Commission showed.

Batang ‘Math whiz’ binigyan ng scholarship ng isang Tomasino

9 Agosto 2014, 7:17 p.m. - PINAGKALOOBAN ng isang UST alumna ng educational scholarship ang isang out-of-school youth na sumikat sa social media dahil sa kahusayan nito sa Matematika.

Ang 10-taong gulang na si Gerald Tamayo ay tumanggap ng scholarship para sa kolehiyo sa Unibersidad, sa kursong Civil Engineering, mula sa Tomasinong si Alicia Ngipen.

Si Ngipen ay anak ng may-ari ng kumpanyang Aster DM Healthcare-Philippines.

Habang nag-aaral pa si Tamayo sa elementarya at high school, bibigyan din siya ng buwanang tulong-pinansyal ng Aster DM Healthcare, isang pribadong kumpanyang nakabase sa Dubai.

UST nangibabaw sa PT boards; passing rate sa OT tumaas

ITINANGHAL bilang top-performing school ang UST sa Physical Therapy (PT) licensure examination matapos magtala ng 91.74-percent passing rate, habang limang Tomasino naman ang nakapasok sa top 10 ng Occupational Therapy (OT) board exam.

Ayon sa datos na inilabas ng Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), 110 Tomasino ang nakapasa mula sa 119 na kumuha ng PT board exam. Bahagyang mas mababa ang passing rate kumpara sa 95.74 percent noong nakaraang taon o 45 na pumasa mula sa 47 na kumuha ng pagsusulit.
