ONE OF the other visions of UST by the time of its quadricentennial is to transform itself into a Center for Contextualized Theology in Asia. The University took a step closer in achieving this goal when it created a Center for Contextualized Theology and Ethics (CCTE) in 2001.

In its eager rush to produce 400 books in time for the 400th anniversary of UST in 2011, is the UST Publishing House (USTPH) sacrificing quality for quantity?

No, said USTPH director Mecheline Manalastas. The books are for the benefit of the public and not just to complete the target, she explained. But it is presumptuous to assume all books are of the same high quality, she added.

THE VICTORY came four times sweeter for the first ever “four-peat” champions in the UAAP Cheerdance Competition history.

The UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe (Salinggawi) and the UST Yellow Jackets roared for four and finally broke the curse of the elusive fourth-consecutive championship in the UAAP Cheerdance Competition last Sept. 17 at the Araneta Coliseum.

Salinggawi wowed the judges with well executed routines, registering 90.98 per cent to pocket the title and the P130,000 cash prize.

CYNICISM has become welded to my personality in recent years. It has become more than just a manifestation of youthful pride and melodrama; I wake up each afternoon (I can’t sleep at night, thinking, or otherwise reading) looking at a world I am sure will fail my expectations. I am an idealist condemned to be frustrated by an environment that is helplessly finite.

THE SCULPTURE’S restoration was divided into six stages: ocular inspection, dismantling, chemical and physical stabilization, application of protective covering and installation. The first and most important stage required keen observation and intense research as it determined what steps would follow.

The sculpture’s medium molave wood, which lasts for hundreds of years due to its resin deposits, Rabara said. The team concluded that the bas relief underwent “warping” decades ago because of restoration during the 1970s.
