SUPORTADO ng Simbahang Katoliko ang pag-eendorso ng mga laiko ng kanilang mga pambato sa pambansang halalan sa 2016.
Subalit iginiit ni Arsobispo Socrates Villegas, pangulo ng Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), na hindi kailanman mag-eendorso ng kandidato ang Simbahan. Ipauubaya ang pagpili sa mga botante nang naaayon sa turo ng Simbahan, aniya.
“While the CBCP and the Catholic Church in the Philippines will never endorse a particular candidate or a particular party, leaving the consciences of voters sovereign in this respect, in keeping with long-accepted moral teachings of the Church, we commend efforts such as these to arrive at a collective discernment on the basis of Catholic standards and principles, that are not necessarily sectarian,” ani Villegas sa isang liham pastoral noong Agosto 11.
Hinikayat ng CBCP ang mga laiko at diyosesis na magdaos ng mga pampublikong harapan ng mga kandidato upang mas mailahad nila ang kanilang mga saloobin at plataporma.
“As the political engine is revved for the presidential elections, we urge our lay persons to be actively engaged in the apostolate of evangelizing the political order. We encourage debate among the candidates, and we hope that our dioceses will organize public fora and debates that allow the public to familiarize themselves with the positions, platforms, plans, beliefs and convictions of our candidates,” ani Villegas, ang arsobispo ng Lingayen-Dagupan.
Voters’ education para sa Katolikong boto
Isinulong naman ng Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) ang “One Good Vote,” isang voters’ education program, na naglalayong maisakatuparan ang malinis na halalan at matalinong pagboto sa 2016.
Ani Henrietta De Villa, tagapangulo ng PPCRV, ang inilunsad na kampanya ay naglalayong gumabay sa mamamayan tungo sa “Catholic vote,” na aniya’y boto na hindi naka-depende sa anumang bagay bukod sa kunsensiya ng isang botante.
“One Good Vote campaign is specialized, it is people-driven, and it is community-conscience based,” ani De Villa sa isang panayam sa Ucanews noong ika-16 ng Abril.
Dagdag pa ni De Villa, ang “One Good Vote” ay naka-sentro sa mga kabataan, at ilan sa mga proyekto nito ay ang pagbibigay kaalaman sa mga botante tungkol sa karakter at kakayahan ng bawat kandidato.
Hadlang sa Katolikong boto
Sa isang pagsusuri na pinamagatang “The Child in Matthew 18:2, isn’t he a best presidential bet?” ipinaliwanag ni P. Leander Barrot, O.A.R. ng Catholic Biblical Association of the Philippines (CBAP) na ang kahirapan ay nagiging hadlang sa pagsulong Catholic vote. Ito ang dahilan kaya talamak ang bilihan ng boto tuwing halalan.
“Dishonesty, fraud, vote buying and vote bullying will always be around the bend come voting period. Nevertheless, the campaign for a free election is supposed to be the work not only of the Catholic church,” ani Barrot sa kanyang pagsusuri na inilahad sa isang kumperensiya noong Abril.
Ipinaliwanag ni Barrot na ang pagboto ay nararapat lamang na ayon sa konsensiya ng bawat botante at may layunin na mapabuti ang political na sektor ng bansa.
“Every single, free, true, and morally authentic vote is in reality a powerful tool for leadership change that will lead to societal progress and inclusive growth and development. This is the hope after every true vote is cast,” aniya. Krystel Nicole A. Sevilla
