“Youth and age are simply states of mind. We will always have the option to add years to our life… or add LIFE to our years.” -Anonymous-

IT’S THAT same old tune again.

At the end of every election, there always seems to be common but unbelievable things that happen.

First is the “noise” from most of the losing candidates wherein they claim that they were either cheated or the poll counting was tampered or sabotaged to favor their opponents.

It seems that during the elections, there are no losers, only winners. Almost everywhere I would hear allegations of massive cheating and poll fraud from both sides of the political fence.

Also, every election season, the Philippine National Police always assure the public of security and order as the poll count begins.

But how do they explain the torching of a school in Batangas which claimed the lives of two people as the counting began?

Brownouts also seem to be a fad during elections as the promise of the PNP of “zero power failure” is always broken.

Lastly, people never learn from their mistakes when choosing their candidates. It was bad enough to put former Sen. Gringo Honasan in the Senate after he lead several bloody coups during the time of former president Cory Aquino, but to even attempt to do the same with Antonio Trillanes, who is also a ringleader of an attempted coup in Makati in 2003 that heavily affected the peso and the country’s economic prospects, is simply the height of gullibility and even stupidity.

Let’s just hope that these ridiculous “trends” end soon and that the poor choice candidates of the people will not backfire on them.

Fortunately, like these perpetual election trends, the legacy of the Varsitarian will live on in me as I leave the portals of UST.

It has both been an honor and a pleasure to have worked with great scribes and to write the final pages of a chapter in my life with my co-Varsitarian staffers.

First, I would like to extend my profound thanks to my beloved class section and my fellow phlebotomists, 3A Med Tech, for helping make my college life more colorful and exciting. I will always cherish those days when we momentarily removed the word “sleep” from our vocabulary just to get through college. To my dearest friends, Little Banjo, Jun, Patrick, Jeremiah, Noel and Mark, thank you for simply being there for me when I needed you most. I will always be grateful that our paths crossed once in our lifetime.

I thank the Editorial Board for teaching me how to persevere and for bearing with me in the V.

To Sir Lito, my counsel, mentor, and guiding light, thank you for the criticisms and the praises. I could not ask for a better teacher than you.

I would also like to thank my closest friends in the Varsitarian, Llanesca, Maje, Jamaila, for being highly significant and influential women in my life, and Adrian, Jason and Nat, for providing relief and joy when things got tough in the V.

To my writers and protégés, Marc, Kristine, Jenny and Hershey, thank you for being my driving force when I wanted to give up and for teaching me how to be human at times.

I also wish the best for the rest of the incumbent staff, Raychel, Michelle, Rieze, Myla, Celina, Nathaniel, Kerwin, Ruben, Richard, Anthony and Andrew.

Lastly, to my parents, thank you for your undying support and love. Truly, you are the only reasons why I am here today. I love you.

Once a V staffer, always a V staffer!
