FORMER Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle tested positive for coronavirus disease (Covid-19) upon his arrival in Manila, the Vatican said on Friday.

Matteo Bruni, director of the Holy See Press Office, said Tagle was asymptomatic and quarantined, adding that “necessary checks are being carried out among those who have come into contact with his Eminence in recent days.”

Bruni said Tagle had tested negative in Rome on Sept. 4.

Tagle was in Turin, Italy earlier this week for the episcopal consecration of Fr. Giorgio Marengo as the new papal envoy to Mongolia.

Tagle is the prefect of the Vatican Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.
