Reinforcing nature’s stronghold

ITS NAME means a spring where animals gather and drink to nurture their needs and restore their strength. And truly, the people behind the soon-to-be-born Tubugan Research Center envision it to be a place where people may re-learn the importance of nature, and hand-in-hand, appreciate and protect its legacy.

Understanding differences

Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous. —(1 Peter 3:8)

Big challenges in higher education

GOOD choice.

With the appointment of former UST Rector Fr. Rolando de la Rosa, O.P. as the new Commission on Higher Education (Ched) chairman, better days are forthcoming for the Commission.

Fr. De la Rosa’s appointment, as Rev. Fr. Ernesto Arceo, O.P., prior of the Philippine Dominican Province, would describe it, is only proper since the Order pioneered the tertiary education system in the Philippines.

Discovering local tourism

IMAGINE a barkada trip in Cagayan de Oro. For three days and two nights, you enjoy the waves of Lauremar beach and discover the wonders of nature in this paradise. Thanks to the Department of Tourism (DOT), this may not only end up as a dream.

- Ricardo Lee, Trip to Quiapo

The lost Purgatory

“Each one’s work will be manifest for the Day will reveal it, because the fire will make everything known…You will be saved, but only as passing through fire.” –1 Corinthians 3: 13-15

Crusade against robbery and theft

NOT AGAIN.

For the second time in a little more than a year, I became the victim of another robbery (hold-up). Again within the vicinity of the squatter’s area along Antipolo St., Manila.

I guess these criminals will never stop until the law catches up with them and they’re incarcerated. But this solution hinges on the arrest of the offenders.

Without depending on the law enforcers to catch these crooks or on instances where these robbers and thieves are caught red-handed, ordinary citizens can help in indirectly abating robbery and theft.

Bickering over the budget

SO CONGRESS is reenacting the 2003 national budget for the second time. Big deal. We spend for mostly the same things every year anyway. Special projects get special funds, but aside from that, we have the usual appropriations for debt service, education, defense, etc.

But seriously, it is a big deal, one that smells rotten, too.

Mesa.

“There is a contradiction between prayer and ‘jihad,’ with Moslem militants engaging in war. And because of this crisis in identity, Moslems are being linked to terrorism,” ani P. Platti.
