TWELVE young writers were named fellows to the Fourth UST National Writers Workshop organized by the UST Center for Creative Writing and Studies (CCWS) last April 24 to 29 in Baguio City.
Unlike in previous years, the CCWS decided to reduce the fellows’ entries to one per category. Workshop panelist Paolo Enrico Melendez explained that by reducing the number of entries, the workshop could give more focus to each fellow.
Fifteen fellows were chosen from 74 applicants nationwide. However, only 12 actually attended
The fellows for fiction in English were Annabelie Gruenberg-Jose, Angeli Marie Sta. Maria and Timothy Sanchez of UST and Ferdinand Cortez of University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao.
The fellows for fiction in Filipino were Nathaniel Arciaga, Chuckberry Pascual and Varsitarian Sci-Tech editor John Ferdinand Buen of UST.
The fellows for poetry in Filipino were Kristine Sioson and Eduardo Salva of UST.
Aside from Melendez, the other panelists were UST-CCWS director Dr. Ophelia A. Dimalanta, National Artist F. Sionil Jose, Dr. Cirilo Bautista and junior associates Becky Añonuevo, Mike Coroza, Lourd de Veyra, Ramil Gulle and Vic Torres and UST-CCWS administrative secretary Ferdie Lopez. Jose Bimbo F. Santos
