April 6, 2016, 8:39p.m. – SIX MORE programs of the University have retained coveted recognitions from the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd).

The teacher education program has received a fresh three-year Center of Excellence (CoE) status, from April 1 to Dec. 31, 2018. The civil engineering, electrical engineering, electronics engineering, industrial engineering and mechanical engineering programs were likewise renewed as Centers of Development, also for the period April 1 to Dec. 31, 2018.

UST now has 13 COEs and 11 CoDs, or a total of 24 CHEd centers of excellence and development, the highest among private higher educational institutions in the country.

Other programs with the CoE status are hotel and restaurant management, travel management, medical technology, pharmacy, chemical engineering, psychology, biology, chemistry, medicine, nursing, music education and philosophy.

In addition, UST’s communication arts, information technology, library and information sciences, physical therapy, literature and journalism programs are CoDs.

CHEd’s official website states that programs with the CoD or CoE status may get financial assistance for projects evaluated and approved by CHEd. The funds can be used for student scholarships, faculty development, library and laboratory upgrading, research and extension services and instructional materials development. Kathryn Jedi V.
