Losers

THE FALL each one of us undergoes is but a normal process. Unlike the ROTC, no one is exempted from it. Perfection is only for the gods, but for us humans, flaws, failures and mistakes are all part of the world we, fortunately or unfortunately, live in.

However, there is one thing that separates us from one another.

Among all those who failed, some have recovered, some have not.

Attitude towards these failures is what makes the difference.

PINAHAHALAGAHAN ng Unibersidad ang mga katangi-tanging ambag ng sinuman, Pilipino man o dayuhan, sa anumang larangan sa pamamagitan ng paggagawad sa mga ito ng honorary degree o honoris causa.

Noong Pebrero 19, 1974, si Juan Carlos de Borbon ng Espanya ang naging kauna-unahang Tomasinong prinsipe na binigyan ng Unibersidad ng Doctor of Laws. Dahil dito, nakasama siya sa hanay ng mga kilalang personalidad na nauna nang nagawaran ng parehong karangalan. Sina Gob. Hen. Frank Murphy (Doctor of Laws, 1934); Andres Soriano (Doctor of Commerce, 1940); Unang Ginang Aurora Quezon (Doctor of Philiosophy in Pedagogy, 1940); at Hen. Douglas McArthur (Doctor of Laws, 1945) ang ilan lamang sa mga ito.

Habitat for Humanity outreach program

FOR THE second time in three years, the UST Civil Engineering (CE) department joined the Habitat for Humanity Philippines (HFHP) in constructing low-cost houses last August 6-8 in Caloocan City.

“(The experience will help the students) because it will complement their theoretical studies with actual situations,” CE department chairman Engr. Josefin de Alban, Jr. said.

Seventy-five graduating students and nine professors of the CE department participated in the three-day outreach program.

Eng’g and CRS dominate speechfest

AN INTER-collegiate interpretative reading contest in English and Filipino was held last September 12 at the Albertus Magnus Auditorium. The contest was sponsored by the University’s Languages Department and the Office of Academic Affairs.

Faculty of Engineering’s Lourdez Corazon Wong bagged the first place in the English interpretative reading while Reynald Ramirez of the College of Rehabilitation Sciences (formerly the Institute of Physical Therapy), and Kenn Verald Lachenal of the College of Nursing won second and third places.

ISINAGAWA ng UST Center for Creative Writng and Studies ang kanilang ikaanim na USTingan Roundtable Discussion na may paksang “Literature in Cinema, Cinema in Literature” noong Agosto 22.

Sa talakayan, pinakita ng panauhing pandangal na si Dr. Paulino Lim Jr., dating patnugot sa seksyong Literary ng Varsitarian, ang tekstuwal na pagkakaugnay ng panitikan at pelikula sa nasabing talakayan. Bukod dito, tinalakay din niya ang paghahalintulad sa panitikan at pelikula sa aspekto ng paglalahad at media, at ang impluwensya ng mga medium sa isa’t isa.
