UST POSTED a near perfect mark in the Electrical Engineering (EE) licensure examinations, even as it placed first among schools for the fifth consecutive year in the Mechanical Engineering (ME) board last October.

In the EE board, 63 of 64 (98.44 per cent passing rate) Thomasian examinees passed. The rating placed second among schools with 10 or more examinees. Only St. Louis College of Tuguegarao and University of the Philippines-Diliman had better passing rates. Both registered perfect scores, but had only less than 20 examinees.

In addition, Jeffrey Ang placed eighth with a grade of 92.45 per cent.

EE department chair Engr. Jerome Amon said the department is more than pleased with the result.

However, Amon said UST should have registered a perfect score. The lone casualty happened to be an applicant who missed the exam due to illness. He explained that the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) based the results on the number of Thomasians who applied to take the exam, and not on the number that actually took it.

Amon said the department will request the Board of Electrical Engineering Examiners of the PRC to reconsider the result.

In the ME board, 61 of 68 (89.71 per cent passing rate) UST graduates passed the exam, improving last year’s 84.93 per cent passing rate.

ME department chair Engr. Nelson Pasamonte said the failures could be attributed to lack of preparation on the part of the UST examinees. He said some of those who failed were already working and unable to focus well on their review.
