CBCP backs UST on truth body

AMID calls for President Macapagal-Arroyo’s resignation, the University has proposed the establishment of a “Truth Commission.” The country’s bishops seem to agree as they cited the proposal as a means of resolving the national crisis.

CCWS launches Tomas

THE UST Center for Creative Writing and Studies (CCWS) will release a special issue of Tomas, its official journal, on July 15 at the UST Museum. The edition will feature artworks from College of Fine Arts and Design (CFAD) professors, thus deviating from its usual text-heavy format.

“This issue is special because part of the Tomas is dedicated to painting and poetry, and this is the first time it will happen,” CCWS director Ophelia Dimalanta said.

“They also need attention and care from the community,” ani Institute of Religion propesor Celso Nierra. “They need our prayers because some of them are lonely and are susceptible to temptations.”

The Italian sculptor with a Filipino soul

THE NAME Francesco Riccardo Monti may not ring a bell. But in this month’s exhibit at the UST Museum of Arts and Sciences, the photographs of the Italian sculptor’s works— the massive sculptures atop the UST Main Building, the bust of St. Thomas Aquinas in the mezzanine of the same building, the relief murals on scenes in Philippine history at the lobby of the Far Eastern University’s administrative building, and the cast of St. Dominic de Guzman at the Sto. Domingo Church in Quezon City, among others—remind people of his importance to modern Philippine art.

Not only on Sundays

“If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” - 2 Chronicles 7:14

DOES the country have a place in our lives?

Biblical pool found

ANOTHER site assumed to be purely Biblical is now proven to be rooted in history.

The Pool of Siloam, where Jesus miraculously healed a blind man as documented in the Gospel of John, was first discovered by workers repairing a damaged sewer line in the Old Jerusalem late last year. Recent developments in excavation have further authenticated the spot.

Upon the discovery of the pool’s three flights of stone stairs providing an easy access to water, Eli Shukron of the Israel Antiquities Authority said he was “100 per cent sure it was the Siloam pool.”
